About Us
Cornerstone Acres Ltd., which started out as Cornerstone Gardens, was founded in 2012. Some people also refer to us as Cornerstone Farms and that's what we do - we farm vegetables, grains, and legumes.
We bought our first home in 2003 in Tofield, Alberta and started growing our own vegetables in 2004 in our small backyard garden.
Several years (and moves) later, we ended up at our current location near Millet, Alberta in late 2008. In 2009 we planted our first small garden at this location.
We kept expanding our family garden and in 2012 decided to attend the Leduc Farmers Market. We had a stall there for five market days that summer. Aside from a walk-behind rototiller, a walk-behind seeder, and a lawn tractor with a small utility trailer to haul produce around, everything was done by hand with manual tools. We even washed our potatoes by hand, one by one. We had around 1/6 of an acre (about 7,000 square feet) of vegetables that year, along with two small greenhouses for tomatoes, peppers, and melons.
In 2013 we bought our first tractor along with a potato digger and hiller/ridger. We began attending farmers markets in Leduc and Sherwood Park (and later on in Camrose) throughout the spring, summer, and fall. The expansions continued; by 2016 we had approximately 3 cultivated acres dedicated to vegetables.
Our acreage was just under 11 acres and about half of that was our buildings, yard site, and a pasture area. In order to facilitate our need for more growing area, we rented an additional 2 acres adjacent to our acreage beginning in 2017.
In 2018 we began selling our produce to grocery stores in the Edmonton area. This new opportunity necessitated additional land and so we rented another 30 acres of the farm land adjacent to our acreage the following year. In 2021, we were able to purchase the parcel of land surrounding our acreage which enabled us to begin growing grains in addition to our vegetables.
We are a family owned and operated farm; we, along with our four children, are actively involved in getting our produce and grains from our farm to your fork. Our focus today is the same as it was when we started over 10 years ago - top quality, healthy food. We are grateful to everyone who has supported us over the years and truly appreciate your continued support.
